A Memory Of A Poem

Last night as I drifted off to sleep, this poem I learned on the bus in middle school popped into my head.

"Pull up a chair, sit on the floor.
Let me tell you a true story, that never happened before.
Early one morning, late last night, two dead boys got up to fight.
Back to back, they faced each other.
Drew their swords and shot each other.
A deaf policeman heard the noise and came and shot those two dead boys.
If you don't believe me, ask the blind man- he saw the whole thing."

I know there is more to this, but that was all I could remember.  I think it begins, "Ladies and gents...  Does anyone else remember this poem?

I do remember it! I thought it was hi-lar-ious when I was a kid. I think Michael and Jeremiah taught it to me, actually. I don't remember anything other than you've written...

Maybe that is where I learned it too. Makes more sense than the bus. I really have the worst memory in the world and if I can't remember, I just make stuff up. Good to know that I didn't make the poem up though!

What a funny little poem. That would keep me up, too, if I couldn't remember all the words.

I always loved that little poem. But I probably learned it from the same place as you and Laura.

That is so funny. I just finished reading a book with that very poem! What are the odds?
